RAD vs DAP Calculator

Should you pay the lump sum RAD or the daily DAP? Enter a room price to see a side-by-side comparison and find out which option costs less.

RAD — Refundable Accommodation Deposit

A lump sum paid upfront to the facility. It works like a deposit — the full amount (less any retention under new rules) is returned to you or your estate when your loved one leaves care.

DAP — Daily Accommodation Payment

A daily rental charge paid instead of (or alongside) the RAD. Calculated as: RAD × MPIR ÷ 365. DAP payments are not refunded — they are a cost.

Current MPIR: 8.38% (effective from 1 January 2026, updated quarterly). You must choose your payment method within 28 days of admission. Read the full RAD guide →
